Ho'oponopono, then and now

Ho’oponopono is a genuine practice. It has several different teachings that have a similar theme. The idea behind ho’oponopono is to “make things right.”

I first learned about ho’oponopono back in 1996 from some truly spiritual teachers.

Then, back in 2004, I was given a course guide and several articles on a different flavor of ho’oponopono by a friend of mine in Mt. Shasta, California. It was both different and similar to the first brand of the practice I used 13 years ago. I liked Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len’s style and new angle right away. It added to the ho’oponopono I knew before.

Relaxing on remote beachThe issue with what is happening right now now is the mix between ho’oponopono as a spiritual practice and marketing.

While I am happy that Joe got the word out about ho’oponopono to a wider audience with Zero Limits, I am not so happy with the marketing of it. I think that the marketing will scare people away from the beautiful concept within of making things right. I think it should stay as a spiritual methodology and not be used as a money making technique. That’s not to say it can’t help you with making money, but I think the focus should be on the original message.

I am in the process of writing a new book on it bringing it back to its spiritual roots and away from the magic goodies it might bring.

In my humble opinion, Zero Limits, which is Joe’s version of ho’oponopono, is not telling it all. There is a big gap. But I think that when people get it, they will experience something incredibly profound.

Again, I don’t mean to be critical. I am VERY happy Joe listened to me at the NGH convention the second time I talked to him about ho’oponopono. I am very happy Joe has spread the word about it. But right now, I think it is my turn to clean it up.

Without sounding superior to Joe, I think that we can only describe a spiritual philosophy from the level we are at. Joe understands it from his level, and I understand it from mine. And I am more interested in the spiritual aspect of it than the money making or magic genie effect.

I am sure Dr. Hew Len can get it to an even deeper level than I could. When Joe and I would talk, I knew he was missing a big piece. But as I got into it, he would get very defensive and I would back down. That is a clear sign in coaching that someone is not ready for it yet. This missing piece has been a big bone of contention between Joe and me. I still hope and pray he gets it because it means so much to so many.

What i think I offer with my new book and DVD is another perspective that will make it come alive for all. I have seen it happen and am excited about teaching and sharing this.

When I filmed and edited Zero Limits 3 for Joe and Dr. Hew Len, I had to watch it over and over again to get it perfect for viewing. Something pretty amazing happened as I watched over and over again. What I thought I knew years ago… Ho’oponopono transformed into a whole different meaning for me.

I realized it was not about whether the process is true or not. It is about how you do the process.

I will be telling more about this in the near future.

Even though I never was paid for production, speaking, and I never received any percentage (of the massive amount of money made from Zero Limits) by Joe for anything he has done with Zero Limits seminars or products (except the subliminal DVD I created), I am still thrilled to see its entrance into the world grow wildly because of my contribution and introduction to Joe.

And I am even more excited to be able to take it to the next level in 2010.

This is going to be fun!!!

  1. Im sure that Joe will pay you what you are worth for all the work you did, Mark. He’s a man of integrity. Must have just been a oversight that you didnt get paid.

Good luck taking this to the next level. Spiritual stuff has gotten as commercialized as Christmas, and people are getting lost in the money part and forgetting the spirit part.

    1. I dont think it was an oversight. As a matter of fact, Joe’s right-hand man Pat O’Bryan informed me that Joe had told him that he was planning on giving me his $90,000 BMW 640i. I guess this was for all the work that i had done for him and saving his life a couple of times in Russia. But since I had not talked to him for two months, he was taking the car back.

Funny, the value of his life and products sold and selling that I did are still working for him.

Maybe he will change his mind, but he is pretty stubborn.

      I am cleaning on it.

  2. Hi Mark,
I will be looking forward to your writing on ho’oponopono. Yes, we need another perspective on the subject. I have had a lot of success with this but would like a deeper knowledge. Whenever, I can I teach Ho’oponopono to my hypnosis clients. Those who are willing to learn it have a lot of success in their personal lives in resolving issues.
Your talent for writing will reach the hearts of many people.

  3. HOW PLEASE TO READ YOUR E-MAIL REGARDING TEACHER, “TYPES.” WAS THIS INFORMATION NEED YEARS AGO? OH MY YES! I HAVE PRINTED YOUR INFORMATION TO SHARE WITH MY TEEN AGE GRANDSON. ONE TEACHER REMARKED, “GLAD TO SEE YOU LEAVE AND GOOD RIDENCE.”

MY OWN SON HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH A HIGH SCHOOL PYCOLOGIST, THE PYSCOLOGIST WAS REMOVED FROM HIS POSITION AT THE SCHOOL.

NOW, REGARDING THE, TRUE STORY” ABOUT YOUR MARVELOUS ASSISTANCE AND BEYOND TO JOE VITALE…I WAS PLEASED TO READ WHAT I FELT LONG AGO.

JOE WAS GOOD IN THE SECRET BUT SHORTLY AFTER WHEN HE PRESENTED HIS, “INFORMATION/TRAINING” I IMMEDIATELY PERCEIVED, THIS MAN AS SOMEONE JUST OUT FOR MONEY AND WHEN HIS NAME APPEARED ON MY E-MAIL, I WOULD DELETED IT W/O READNG THE $OFFERS$ HE PRESENTED.

I WISH YOU SUCCESS IN 2010 AND I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR NEW BOOK. PLEASE KEEP TELLING IT THE WAY IT IS AND WAS.

    THANK YOU.

  4. Mark,

YOU are the one who taught me, through your message that my wealth is within ME… YOU are the one who finally helped me wake up to my poverty consciousness ( BIG TIME). YOUR GIFT is what pulled me back from the brink at a time in my life when I thought I could no longer go on..

The BMW is nice (I used to have the same one.. Sweet ride) but you deserve a much better car, and you know it’s on it’s way to you..Even though I have a sneaking suspicion that you are not the kind of guy that “needs a car or collection of cars” to give you value!

The fact that Joe did not pay you or give you credit is a blessing..( I’ve been there more times than I care to discuss LOL!)

Now you know that you can do it on your own.. Soemtimes that’s what it takes.. You’ve got to loose a little to gain ALOT MORE!

I so agree with you that the Spritual is what we need to focus on rather than the material with Ho’oponopono..

Looking forward to ALL of your products!

    Love and Blessings,
    A

  5. Hi Mark
Thank you so much for writing the blog on ho’ponopono in response to my concern. I was very drawn to it as a practice and the teachings of Dr. Hew Len but after the whole Sedona sweat lodge incident (which I realize has nothing to do with ho’ponopono, but you know what I mean…) my Bull.S…t detector went into overdrive and I started questioning every teacher or expert I had purchased material from. Like many people out there I have invested considerable time, energy and $$ into resources and courses to support my development as a human being. I don’t expect anyone or any one method to be the ‘be all and end all’ but I am at least hoping that there is some genuine value in what they are promoting.

I look forward to learning more about Ho’oponopono from a deeper, purer and more soul driven perspective. Thanks Mark. Keep clearing and keep shining your light

  6. I have taken 2 Ho’oponopono workshops with Dr. Hew Len and 2 with another teacher from Self I dentity. I use the practice moment by moment in my life. I am glad the spiritual element is being brought forth. It is interetsing to me that I was introduced to Ho’oponopono through Zero limits but at the last workshop I attended with Dr. Hew Len in Portland a couple of weeks ago, he stated a few times he hadn’t even read it. Anyhow, it doesn’t matter who or what has been, will be or will never be said. All that matters is that I clean in myself and stay clear. If there is controversy then I have created it and when I get clean it will be right. I love you. Thank you

  7. Diane and I are very grateful to you and Dr Hew Len for bringing the spiritual message of Ho’oponopono through the work of Joe Vitali.
Joe says he Ho’oponopono’s all his books and DVDs. None of them interested me, but there was something about Zero Limits that I couldn’t ignore.
Di and I are therapists and studied the DVD as part of our personal professional developement and to integrate in our working practices, so it immediately became clear that Joe’s interest was business orientated and that you understood the spiritual significance with your sensitive meditations.
As students of Debbie Ford we also recognised the pain of self martydom and low self worth you have expressed through the “Ho’oponopono then and now” post and subsequent comments because we own those too.
For over 6 years we have guided people to heal themselves by recognising the issues that hurt them are those they hold within themselves. Diane and I have struggled on a low income, not being paid our worth and sometimes being completely overlooked for the time and effort we commit to helping others realises their dreams. We are also aware that the people around us are perpetuating our beliefs that what we do is worthless by commenting things like “Isn’t it time you got a proper job?”, even our Accountant calls what we do “A hobby”!
As Dr Hew Len would say “The problem is not with them, it’s in you”
So why don’t you feel worthy of a few millian from the profits of Zero Limits?
We appreciate your time and effort to bring Zero Limits and the Ho’oponopono message to the masses and we feel you are worth it.
Diane and I will be Ho’oponopono-ing with you.
    Bright blessings.

  8. The problem is not a problem … it is an experience that I (we are all I) am having.
    Forgive me
    I’m sorry
    Thank you
    I love you!

  9. I am Sorry to hear of your troubles and the sense of betrayal, but at the same time I must honour you with a Thank You; I purchased the Zero Limits dvd and was bitterly disappointed – it was totally lacking in emotion of any description, and contained Zero spirituality. If you listen to it you will notice two occassions when Dr Hew Lin remarks on Joe’s financial incentives, and I immediately suspected that he waas not altogether happy with the manner in which this sacred process was being commercialised! Doesn’t this take us back to the debate on spirituality/pseudo-spirituality? I look forward to your future blogs Mark, and wish you and your loved ones a truly blessed festive season, and that is extended to all the readers of your blogs. We can clear on this stuff, we can be the change we wish to see!
